  • A tattoo is a marking made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment for decorative or other reasons. Tattooing has been practiced for centuries worldwide.

the word tattoo is said to has two major derivations- from the polynesian word ‘ta’ which means striking something and the tahitian word ‘tatau’ which means ‘to mark something’.
    * the history of tattoo began over 5000 years ago and is as diverse as the people who wear them. At that time they used Tattoo as a secret message
and for identifying slaves the use tattoos

    Egypt mummies

Many Egyptian Mummies found in the pyramids of Egypt also have tattoos engraved near their waists. It is said that these are basically the mummies of women longing for a child and the tattoos are the symbol of their goddess of fertility. There have been several reports that suggest that in past at some places tattooing was done for medicinal purposes. It is also said that the pigments used in tattooing had some curative or healing effect.

    Proof
in 1991, a five thousand year old tattooed man ‘ötzi the ice man’ made the headlines of newspapers all over the world when his frozen body was discovered on a mountain between austria and italy.
this is the best preserved corpse of that period ever found. the skin bears 57 tattoos: a cross on the inside of the left knee, six straight lines 15 centimeters long above the kidneys and numerous parallel lines on the ankles. the position of the tattoo marks suggests that they were probably applied for therapeutic reasons

    Greek tattoos
Tattooing was only associated with barbarians in early Greek and Roman times. The Greeks learned tattooing from the Persians, and used it to mark slaves and criminals so they could be identified if they tried to escape. The Romans in turn adopted the practice from the Greeks, and in late antiquity when the Roman army consisted largely of mercenaries; they also were tattooed so that deserters could be identified

Other Greek and Roman physicians had special formulas that they used:
Pigeon feces mixed with vinegar and applied as a poultice "for a long time" later they send message on mans body

    Japan
    297 AD
The first written record of Japanese tattooing was discovered when a Chinese dynastic history was compiled. According to the text, Japanese "men young and old, all tattoo their faces and decorate their bodies with designs." Japanese tattooing is also mentioned in other Chinese histories, but almost always in a negative context. The Chinese considered tattooing to be a sign of barbarism and used it only as punishment.
